Global adoption of start-stop vehicles is on the rise
Around the world, there is a general desire to reduce greenhouse gases and improve fuel utilization. Government officials have responded and enacted various new legislation. To respond to these new laws, car manufacturers are employing many strategies such as developing pure electrical vehicles, downsizing the internal combustion engine and bringing on start-stop technologies.
The shift to start-stop technology requires a more robust battery design
In the start-stop situation, the lead acid battery is called to operate in a partial state of charge and may never see an overcharge condition. The battery still must start the engine but at a much higher frequency while simultaneously powering all the auxiliary devices without interruption.
